INTEGRITY / ROT IN HELL, Cologne, MTC

Here is what happened on Twitter:

  • So...I am off. Get Ready for INTEGRITY & ROT IN HELL @ Cologne updates
  • Approaching...stoked for one of the rare, possibly the only show I might go to this year
  • The usual Cologne phenomenon at Hardcore shows: only a few familiar faces - and alot different
  • Okay...forced to ditch this. Bummer - no phone connection inside. Try to compose some instant thoughts on my blog to publish later
  • BLOODATTACK is on now...and I am off for a Lunch break.
  • Love Turkish Kebab houses getting ready for Karneval...and waiting for ROT IN HELL
  • Promised Media enriched content. Here we go: http://t.co/Mjg1isd1

Switching to Blog mode... Try to maintain the tweet-mode. Random thoughts published in instant:

  • Refreshing "old" crowd, not the usual hipster hardcore youth.
  • Waiting for ROT IN HELL to get on Stage - the HELMET background sound switched to something less meaningful and powerless
  • Dwid occupied in some Fan-Talk. You have to be FAN, you know
  • Crowd includes some other ex-involved Hardcore-dudes like myself. We had our 15 minutes of fame,ya'll!
  • Hans is pretty relaxed before the gig - while the guys are already tuning, he still just stands and stares across the room at Merch
  • Notice an unexpected and yet very welcomed twist in Hans' tone. Dirrty
  • The sound is a crystal clear mess of noise, that already resembles your soundboard recordings
  • Crowd reaction...what crowd reaction?
  • "this is a new song" - me like the familiar yet catchy metallic Thrash/Riff-changes
  • Just recognized: Hans might be rather having trouble with his voice - maybe because of all the smoke in the air
  • Obviously, people saved their energy for Integ...like myself. Decent participation - for Cologne almost enthusiastic.
  • "Judgment Day" got the ball rolling - crowd went with the flow from thereon.
  • Missed some of my favorite newer tunes, but "Lucifer..." satisfied some needs. All in all, good mixture of classics and "band-songs"
  • Some moments were graced by an enormous deep felt roaring of Dwid. Others just took it away with, dare I say, FUN!
  • To elaborate on that: it is pretty obvious that all of this is very relaxed and kinda "over it". There is nothing "BIG" to promote - other than a legacy of a band that is given it to their kind of people for more than 20 years. Be it only Dwid who still is, nobody feels out of place this time (like on "Closure"- or "To die for"-tours)
  • There is alot of "I don't care...I'm just here with you"-attitude about this show. And that's exactly how I feel
  • Personal favorite was a rockish-swinging version of "Lucifer...", followed by "Abraxas" and the ever-challenging (I always tend to forget the second verse) "Systems overload" - Disclaimer: the last song I ever did a stagedive to, back in Hamburg, back in the 1990s, backed up on "Spiegel TV"

Back to Twitter:
  • After a little chitchat with each Hans and Dwid, I got out of that and am ready to conduct more
  • Had my Blogger App filled with instant updates, which I am going to publish at home
  • Also did some video shoots... Picture quality is real good, but sound far from decent. See if I can brush that up for you
  • All in all, Cologne saw a ROT IN HELL set that lacked some, and a real amusing (in a good way) @INTEGRITY_HT performance.

The End... of [ lei ] - as it once was

To close this year, I thought of a fitting companion from my published works...
Well, here it is - a pamphlet written soon after the obvious demise of my former band LEBENSREFORM, by then even called [ lei ]. That name was kinda tongue in cheek, as one might think. LEBENSREFORM used to be a Straight Edge-band from the start, and very early on had some lyrical content concerning Straight Edge. We later skipped that concept anyway (at least being outspoken about it - we just wanted to BE), but never would have thought about getting cynical or anything. Straight Edge was still something to live by, in some personal way.

You might have guessed it - that way fail for some of us, and maybe to this day to all but one involved. But I guess I can still speak for the others: we stood behind it 100%, and it was a very very VERY important part of ours and the bands life. With [ lei ], the name itself might indicate something of a "vague" justification, but to tell you the truth - the story behind the name is much more simple. LEI was our favorite character in a Computer Game, and he did fulfill two very important credentials: he was hard to track and... he simply began with in L - like LEBENSREFORM, LOXIRAN and LINSAY. Okay, concerning the pamphlet: it's pretty obvious we still thought - or at least I thought - we would go on with the band. There were some cool adventures right behind us, like the tour with CATHARSIS and GEHENNA, we had accomplished a pretty decent moment as a band, being able to choose and bring with us other bands to shows, and were informaly offered some more, like touring the US... But after all, it just did not work out and kinda faded away. The actual edition of my fanzine was written in German, but here is what I could make of it with Google Translate:

[lei] is on a break

what was once LEBENSREFORM and now [lei], is in the moment of doubt ..

it is not dead, it's not bad, but it does not work properly ... musically

what we have achieved makes us happy, but what is to come is a riddle to us

we build on, but what we need is change. we seek for it now ...

[lei] is paralyzed ... creativly. new paths seem far
we know that we simply can not go on ... may... want
and it needs more time to consolidate
to consolidate us ... hold on to capture the image on the principle of our interests, ideas, content, feelings, and concepts
what we are producing now are delusions - [lei] does not work ...

[lei] was a working concept

Now we are moving in the empty space
we cannot create without contradicting ourselves
you always must question yiurself but we will do so by being cynical

[lei] as a "unit" would have continued to work, played shows, make records, etc. ... but more than ever, we are now interested in the famous STEP BEYOND.

about what it is there is no common demeanour, we do not really see one another
we stand for what we were, but we want to wait for what we want to be
just because we do not want to disappoint, especially not ourselves, we cannot just continue
each of us has different intentions with [lei], but we all believe that we don't want to exploit the conditions.
[lei] must not be more dishonest, harmful, parasitic
we would now use our "opportunities", it would be exactly this: taking advantage of!
we don't need that, you do not need that, nor does this environment needs it
[lei] goes on, but we try to take our time ...

A homemade ZERO MENTALITY video - "Too Late"

These were Coptic Times...
Further info: https://www.facebook.com/zeromentalityrulesok

My friends in ZERO MENTALITY are a powerful unit with talented musicians allthrough their existence. There was alot of fuzz about them, when they started out, and I was lucky to get introduced early on by my friend Dominik Stammen - and joined their ranks soon afterwards.

This video shows them in their early installment, which remains to many the ultimate for all the Hardcore reasons. If you'll ask me, I'll rather go for the »Invite your soul«-days, but I am for sure also a sucker for alot of stuff from the demo or the first album.

One day, I decided to compose myelf a little HC-Videoclip DVD and was very eager to include ZERO MENTALITY. There was no official video of them by that time, so I took one of my favorite early songs and stole some footage that was floating around the net. If anyone out there feels responsible for doing it and feels he/she should be mentioned, just drop me a line.

"Too late" is a very straight out HC-song, and the action in the video should make clear that in those days moshing it up was a main task for the Z.M.-audience. Many familiar faces and moves are depicted here. Really likable - just like the lyrics by the infamous André Hoppe, that also breath alot of classic HC-vibe.

As far as my editing skills go: C'moooon - it was just for personal reasons. There are some minor errors in there, even including mispelling, oops.
The video does not have any clearance by any party involved, therefore (and because of it's amateur-character) I shy away from putting it on YouTube or Vimeo. But if you want to see it, there you go:

LEBENSREFORM - the spazztic Megamix

Sumthin' off-track...kinda
I fooled around with some tracks and art pieces by my former band, and with alot of others' work. Won't tell you that I am a musical genius, nor that I am a talented RMXer... Just did that, and you can have it.

Cannot even remember which software I used. I had a semi-legal copy of Pro-Tools back then, and got to work with that for some projects, but this is more likely to be done by some freeware that I wanted to test.

This is NOT and will never be part of the official LEBENSREFORM legacy, so this is going to be exclusive to this blog - and anyone who wants to share.

Take it!
