LINSAY killed ENFOLD, Split-7" Layout

I indicated before that you'll be able to see this - if you don't happen to have the actual record.
Cover-Front

The layout for the "LINSAY killed ENFOLD"-split 7" is one of those things I am most proud of. From a technical point of view, I do and did see alot of things that could have been done better. But with the lame-ass equipment, and the amateur-arse experience I had back then - it's a nice effort.

The whole concept was a LINSAY-thing, I guess only Stefan Sandrock from ENFOLD was kinda involved, if I remember that one right. But I guess, he only had to nod his head to what Jochen and Jan had proposed.
Enfold are...
Anyway, I really like this theme, and came up for the most part with the handcraft.
How to put the visuals, which font, what to fold, who's to blame... It all was supposed to be abit slicker than average, quality stuff - Markus Haas of PER KORO Records always was supportive if a band choose a special kind of paper / cartonage. Remembering the reviews for the record: it all worked out fine.

I don't thing that the lyrics and music very much are reflected in the artwork, but at least they were also great. I might even want to listen to the songs right after posting - who'd expect this!

Here is a PDF with an overview of the whole deal.

A negative LINSAY

LINSAY T-Shirt

For those of you who don't know, LINSAY was a great HC band out of Hamburg, Germany. They existed during the prime of the so-called Northcore scene, and not only shared members with LEBENSREFORM, LOXIRAN and KINDLE, but also the same practice space.
This is a sticker of the other
best LINSAY-layout I did.
That'll be up here soon...

LINSAY's voice, Niels Abele, was the original bassist of LEBENSREFORM. Jan Elbeshausen sort of that bands always apparent stand-in, and later active in MARR or THE DANCE INC. Olli Koch is known for being in LOXIRAN, ENFOLD and TOMTE. Jochen Schütt was in MARKER-X-SYNDROME and KINDLE. As was Lars Lewerenz, also known as "das AUDIOLITH".

I lived, loved, and laughed with most of these guys for one of the finest times in my life. I also did quite some layout stuff for them, from demo to 7" to splits with ENFOLD and COLE QUINTETT.

Usually, it was a "how to get these ideas to reality"-job. That means: LINSAYs members came up with quite a good amount of ideas, and had a vision about their stuff and how it should be digested.
Especially the last thing worked kinda perfect, as far as I am concerned.

One of the best things from this creative arrangement is the T-Shirt, which I think was their only one. Even if that was not much of a work of mine, I really like the way it came about (creative, spontaneous and quick).

I still wear this shirt with pride, it just could be at least of one size smaller these days.

We are not living the 90s anymore (fun intended)...

SIRENS - some layout jobs...

There was a time, where the most social thing about the web have been messageboards and their communities. It's like web 1.5, compared to these days - but it was a somehow memorable time.
A collection of the layout accompanying
the first SIRENS record, "calling".

There is a PDF a click away, but that's
just Thumbnails. Though if you don't
own the stuff (yet), you might
get an idea.
Germany had its' share with the still running "poisonfree.com"-board. You guessed it, that's somehow based in the Straight Edge*, and one of the most prominent person affiliated was and is the SxE Cobra, Daniel Gerigk.
We developed a friendship ever since, and worked together on quite a few things (a funny ebay-store included).
When he came up with his new band SIRENS, it was a kinda natural way for me to try and help out with some designs. That ranged from the layout for the first record, to Buttons and Shirt designs. That thing was happening in my Merchandising-prime, so I also did that on a few of the first shows.

Most of this was just a fun thing to do. And I loved it - because actually "working" with Daniel is something that would not really be about the main topic.

The rest of the SIRENS-camp, I knew or got to know as all around nice guys - with a mind, and a life. We shared a love for 1990s Hardcore. And if you still do, and you liked SIRENS,
I recommend you hop on over to STATIC VOID...
This is Micha Steele sporting
 a Tour-shirt of his band.

A thumb of the Design to the right ->

* The Straight Edge was not at all the main topic - oh boyee, it wasn't. And the board was a good vehicle to get to know people from all over the place that you might just have passed the other day. It even was a kinda "fuzz" thing and could be held responsible for the start of a career like  BLACK FRIDAY '29s.

VVe.gas or VEGAS or .vegas. or brilliant - but for sure: "Wake"-Promosheet

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud to present to you this item. Supposedly this has never gained a bigger audience, since it's the promotional sheet that accompanied VEGAS' release "Wake". Therefore, only magazines, distributions and media-partners are on the knowing side. And now: you!
I got asked by T. to do this, since we both got a tradition in exchanging. If this thing was kinda help-/succesful I don't know. But I have to admit, that at least in Germany, it's sad to say that VEGAS never got the recognition they deserve. And I guess, they are far more popular now for being the kinda "cult" they are, than by trying to be an actual band in the phase that was represented on "Wake". At least, I am happy, there still is VVe.gas, and there still is great work and shows and releases...
Technically, the PDF is with German text, but I tried to provide a translation. This is a halfway Google-thing, and I am quite unsure about my abilities these days, so for people who do understand both languages fluently: let me know about corrections!

Vegas - promotional sheet for "Wake"

Text-translation:
"WAKE

"Wake" is more than a showcase. With this album .VEGAS. leave an unparalleled found essence.
"Wake" also creates space. Space for something that is always to feel as new, but also at the same time the remaining, the beloved, the what you're looking for.
Adami, Gross, von Ehr and T laid a foundation in 13 tracks for a variety of emotions, with a musical setting that reflects exactly what seems to be already clear in the first few seconds. The knowing-one of their world of experience only needs a few moments to capture in which light the way of views of .VEGAS. appears bright. Those who collect this unconditional "search & destroy" in themself, see the standing of the way of this band.

.VEGAS. adress in their lyrics, invariably written by T, almost pornographicly exact, a something that others will call an "inner hell". Unlike these others might once again do, this here will not be seen to be weeping and lamenting songs, but evokening a cathartic rage, a self-sacrificing power: crucial nihilism.
The soundtrack is much more than a single scream of guitars and march rhythms. The so-called hardcore band .VEGAS. is a conglomerate of listening experiences, which appear to be structural-known is their resound in the ears of the untrained viewer. In truth, this expression is only the structured cacophony of life in sound. Listen to the track 14, at first in the booklet to decipher as "sagevisule" by a projct with a programmatic name: NEVER PRESENCE FOREVER.
Tracks of those recordings from 2003 serve to provide a sound landscape that can be cast in accordance with the catharsis of the essence of "Wake." The usage of samples, percussion and electronic music in this style is not new - but successful.
.VEGAS. do not copy what they like, they are of the same blood and the same flesh as the most close references. Last but not least there are not only an incisive vocals ofDwid H. INTEGRITY in "Rhythm of Decline", also layout, video, and especially humor are found in a Holy Terror vein. The very undervalued Clevo attraction of PALE CREATION finds the way into this work, and not least one also could be of the mistaken impression many riffs are from "Seasons in the size of days". But it remains clear, .VEGAS. are friends, are of the same seed, are a conglomerate of the same experiences. Also commonly shared: style as an expression, not for its own sake.
"Escape the confines of your fate. do not be a prisoner in someone else's scheme "
.VEGAS. representing with "Wake" a creative phase of the millennium. This includes both the five-song demo from 2002, and all eight shots out of the Anno Domini 2003-recording. Nevertheless the CD is a complete impression, because everything was newly remixed and remastered. The Heavy Mucke flag of the open razor is also not the only amusing visual component, is also worthwhile to look at the CD-Extra video for the song "Feel the leash." Director Dwid deposited with the song truly unexpected images. Have a good laugh!
.VEGAS. "Wake" CD enters a phase that is documented very impressive. The future belongs to:
